Heroes by Force; The primary aim of this 225-page book which highlights the service of all African Americans who served in the Confederacy in the American Civil War, whether they enlisted, were drafted, or were ordered to serve by their masters. Many are baffled as to why African Americans would fight for the Old South. Hear slave narratives and testimonies from black confederate soldiers of the era reveal that they fought for the South because their land was being invaded by a nation attempting to impose its will on them.
Many of the bodyguards had grown up as servants and played as companions to their masters. Together, they participated in all the major wars of the country’s history, including the Mexican-American War. This directory was compiled by states records which a very small fraction of black confederate soldiers listing, the book contains close to 4,000 African Americans who fought with the confederacy and at the end of the war got pensions it’s compiled by name, regiment divisions and in some cases their slave owners names.
